I loved being a part of this Jewish wedding at Sutton Place in Toronto. The symbolism in their traditions are wonderful. The wedding takes place under the chuppah, a canopy on four poles which is open on all four sides. It symbolizes that the bride and groom are creating a home together and that it will always be open to guests. As I spent the day with this wonderful family, it became very apparent that everyone in this family held that tradition personally and they were deeply involved in each other's lives. The love that flowed from these interpersonal relationships touched my heart. I liked the bedecken ceremony where the groom lowered the veil over the bride's face, a custom that goes back to the biblical matriarch, Rebecca; and also because it holds the symbolism that the groom loves the bride for more than just her outer beauty. To hear Jason and Jessica when it was time for each of them to speak at the reception, was to enjoy a true love story full of devotion and appreciation. And this family danced with such joy and excitement.......and everyone danced. Once again my face was sore from smiling so much!! And my heart was deeply moved by the love in this circle of relatives and friends. Jessica was full of joy, her laughter and enthusiasm contagious to everyone around her. Guys, I pray that your love always sparkles; and that your marriage is forever, like that broken glass!! Mazel Tov!!!
