Ellen's Graduation

When Todd asked us to photograph his daughter's graduation from high school and the private affair that they were hosting afterward to celebrate, I was honored.  I had no idea that at Ellen's grad ceremony I would get a front row seat to photograph Marty Nesbit, president Obama's best friend.  Marty had graduated from this very school and he had come back as the guest speaker. Mr. Nesbitt's voice broke with emotion as he told the graduating class that he had dreamed of this day since he had graduated himself.  His speech was encouraging and inspiring, as he told this class that they could be whatever they wanted to be.  I know Ellen was listening, because she has already gone on to excel in her freshman year at Case Western and she has earned an 8 week placement in language immersion in Asia.  Todd wrote a song and surprised his daughter by singing it to her on the night of their home party.  And no one could miss the banner that he had designed for the front lawn! Marilyn had an amazing spread of yummy food. The cake was really, really good and I will find out who the baker was and post that vendor here.  We took hundreds of photos, but I will just put a few up from the event.  Thank you Todd for giving us the honor of making these moments last forever!!
This was where Mr. Nesbitt got emotional about being able to come back and speak at the school where he had once been a student.Ellen's brother also graduated from Columbus Academy and has gone on to become a chiropractor.  He was there with his lovely wife to cheer his sister on. All the graduating girls wore white dresses.Ellen's best friend hugged her, and the two shared that "Yay, we did it!!!" moment.  One of my favorite parts of shooting any event is capturing the real moments.Todd made a grand sign for the front lawn to celebrate Ellen.  She would make any dad proud. Way to go, Ellen!!  All the best as you journey the globe!!
